Abstract

The aims of this research were: to study the leadership and suggestions to develop the leadership based on the principles of Brahmavihara dhamma IV (Pāli: brahmavihāra, sublime states of mind) of the educational administrators in Phrapariyatti schools (general education) under the Office of Buddhism, Mahasarakham province. This study used the mixed research methodology to collect the data from 137 samples, selected by the method of Krejcies & Morgan, including the administrators and teachers in the schools and from 10 targeted informants selected by the purposive sampling.  The research tools used in this study were a questionnaire with its reliability value of .97 and the structured interview. The statistics used in this study were: Mean and Standard Deviation.

The research results were as follows:

1) The mean scores of leadership based on the principles of Brahmavihara dhamma IV of the educational administrators in Phrapariyatti schools (general education) under the Office of Buddhism, Mahasarakham province were rated at a high level in both overall and studied aspects. The highest score can be seen in the aspect of ‘leadership based on loving kindness (mettā)’, followed by that of ‘administrational leadership based on equanimity (upekkhā)’, ‘administrational leadership based on compassion (karuṇā) and ‘administrational leadership based on sympathetic joy (muditā). 

2) Suggestions for the development of leadership according to Brahmavihara principles IV off the administrators of the Phrapariyatti Dhamma schools, (general education) are as follows: 1) the administrators should be a friend to suggest beneficial things to their colleagues in the educational institutions; 2) they should give advice in politeness using polite words and follow the words given to colleagues; 3) they should be a good counselor in giving advice to colleagues when there is a problem; they should fairly consider the laurel of personnel in the educational institutions to build good relationships with colleagues.
